Hearthstone: Heroes of WarCraft Beta

If you’ve been following my Twitch TV stream (and if you aren’t you should definitely check it out!), you’ll see that I’ve been playing a lot of Hearthstone lately. It seems like the beta for Hearthstone is still pretty exclusive, but I was lucky enough to get in and have been trying it out as much as I can.

Hearthstone is a free-to-play online card game (think Magic the Gathering style) from Blizzard Entertainment, with heroes of similar classes from the WarCraft series. It’s a 1v1 game operating over Battle.net. Unlike previous Blizzard games, this one isn’t so much about telling a story, but more of a casual style game with obvious competitive aspects.

So far, the game is pretty easy to get into. If you follow all of the tutorial guides and read up on the basics you’ll be able to understand how to play pretty easily, even if you aren’t too familiar with other card games. It has 3 game modes, Play, Practice, and Arena, with my favorite being Arena. You pay a fee of either cash or gold to enter into an arena of games, where you can create a deck and fight other players, winning 9 times before you lose 3 times. This is an awesome head-to-head style, which also puts in some reward elements based on how well you play.

I really like the game so far – it is fun and addictive. The UI is pretty slick and I love the setup of everything.   It’s not overly complicated but it’s not simple to the point of being boring. If you aren’t in beta yet, you can always check out my stream to watch me play!

I even decided to write a blog about it! Check it out here.

Enjoy and hope you like it!
