League of Legends
Brings Even More Changes To Season 3

Well, if you’ve been keeping up with my blog you know that I talked about League of Legends and the switch from Season 2 to Season 3. Each transition from Season to Season brings about a new change to the game, and Season 3 brought a whole slew of modifications that made the game actually seem different – familiar but different. As we are now a little bit into the season I thought these changes would stop there, but Riot Games just revealed even more new changes to the game for Season 3! These changes really encourage more casual gamers to start playing the game competitively. You all know me as a very competitive gamer, so I definitely like these additions.

The big change has to do with ranked play (solo queue, 3v3, and 5v5). Instead of having one specific number for your ELO with you moving up or down a tier of bronze, silver, gold, platinum, or diamond based on that number, the ranked tiers will now act like in the game StarCraft 2. So, there are now 6 tiers to move through with League Points being used to determine if you get promoted or not. You don’t have to worry about getting demoted based on losing a certain number of points as was the case with the ELO system. Each tier will act as a ‘league’ with 250 players competing to get promoted. Again, very similar to how it works in StarCraft 2.

What I really love is that you now also have a new tier called the Challenger tier. This is the best of the best of ranked players, and this tier will give those players the opportunity to go pro in Season 3. I really love this because it completely bridges the gap between casual gamers and competitive/professional gamers. Before, you sort of didn’t really have a specific way to become a competitive or professional player. It was hard because you wouldn’t really know where to start or what to do. Now, you have one big way through the Challenger tier.
